Robot surgeon revolutionises cancer surgery

He has the steadiest of hands, is immune from human error and never drinks while on call.

Say hello to da Vinci S, a pioneering surgeon proving to be a cut above the rest at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The £2million robotic device, with tweezer-like hands and a designer Italian name, is revolutionising the treatment of prostate cancer sufferers in Sutton.

Instead of being cut open, patients now have four tiny incisions made in their abdomen, through which the rotatable robotic arms are inserted.

Doctors sit with the patient in front of a screen and manoeuvre the arms from an enclosed console, like something off the Starship Enterprise.

The extended vision and magnification of the robotic surgeon gives them more than 1,000 times the accuracy of the human hand when removing cancerous prostate glands.

Project teaches ways to help

Older shoes are ground up and used to make running tracks, playgrounds and basketball courts.

The magazine was going for a world record.

In one month, she collected 380 pairs of shoes.

UNICEF drive

Bailey Eldridge, 11, researched and organized a trick-or-treat drive for UNICEF. She went door to door and raised $63.

The money helped pay for mosquito nets, water filters, pens and pencils, and vaccinations in underprivileged countries.

Milk money

At church, Katherine Mills, 11, heard about the poverty in Honduras. She couldn't believe that the children often went without milk.

She decided to collect money in an empty milk carton to help pay for powdered milk. "They deserve to have milk and a nice meal," she said.

Romney, McCain tag each other as 'liberal'

The latest polls have McCain and Romney essentially tied, with Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mike Huckabee also on the ballot.

Several factors are certain to affect the outcome. The Florida primary, with its winner-take-all 57 delegates, is open only to Republican voters; McCain's other wins, in New Hampshire and South Carolina, were fueled in part by independents able to cast ballots in the GOP contest.

Earlier in West Palm Beach, Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, drew chuckles when he recalled there was talk in 2004 of McCain teaming with Kerry on the opposing party's ticket.

Romney used his resume to counter McCain's record on national security, which is near and dear to the large proportion of veterans and active military in Florida.
