| EU opens antitrust probe with raid on drug makers
In July 2006, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents raided the U.S. offices of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. as part of a criminal investigation into an agreement the company tried to strike to delay the launch of a generic version of the blockbuster drug Plavix. Bristol-Myers and its partner, Sanofi-Aventis, had proposed paying the generic company Apotex Inc. of Canada at least $40 million to hold off launching a cheaper generic version of the blood-thinning drug until 2011. FBI agents took away documents and searched the offices of Bristol-Myers's chief executive at the time, Peter Dolan. The investigation and the negotiations with Apotex eventually helped lead to Mr. Dolan's ouster. Last year, Bristol-Myers agreed to pay a $1 million fine and plead guilty to lying to a government agency to settle the criminal investigation.
Chocolate 'Causes Weak Bones'
Eating chocolate could lead to weaker bones," reported the Daily Express today. The Daily Telegraph also covered a new study that has shown that women who ate chocolate every day had less dense bones than those who ate it less than once a week. The Daily Mail quotes the lead researcher as saying, "These findings could have important implications for prevention of osteoporotic fracture." The research behind this claim is a cross-sectional study, which by virtue of its design, cannot prove that chocolate consumption causes low bone density in women. Other diet, lifestyle, or environmental factors could have caused the decreased bone density. This finding was also only in women over 70 and so cannot apply to younger women or men. Studies with more robust designs would be needed to confirm this association.
Detainee fallout: take few, free quickly
We do know one thing We are not fulfilling our pledge to uphold human rights. I know what will happen next, our army will be up on War Crimes. Bc they have not ensured the proper treatment of these people. So it bascilly looks we are shirking out duties and our commitment over there. We are taking the enemy and letting them go, grabbing fewer of them and not ensuring their human rights are detained, So Maybe not as bad as the Taliban but no way near what we professed this mission to be. Just Great. Posted 29/01/08 at 2:33 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .
