Truman, known as Margaret Truman Daniel in private life, died at a Chicago assisted living facility following a brief illness, according to a statement from the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence. She had been at the facility for the past several weeks and was on a respirator, the library said.

Her father's succession to the presidency in 1945 thrust her into the national spotlight while a college junior.

You've already seen the headlines touting October as breast cancer awareness month. A zillion products are available in "pink" editions now, and gullible consumers snatch them up at retail outlets without knowing a single thing about where that money goes or even what percentage of their product sale is donated to cancer non-profits. (For many products, the amount donated is mere pennies, and much of the donated money goes to worthless cancer maintenance non-profits that have no interest in actually preventing cancer...)

The level of hype and propaganda in this year's breast cancer awareness month has sunk to a new low. The American Cancer Society, as usual, appears to be absolutely worthless in all this, still failing to teach women the No. 1 way to prevent a whopping 77 percent of all cancers: Sunlight and vitamin D.

The high point of all this was in Minoan Crete from about 4000-1450 BCE: NOT a utopia, and yet the longest continuous period of peace and progress that anybody can yet demonstrate. (The "world of The Bible," by contrast, has yet to be demonstrated by a single artifact "worthy" of its claim). Their solar/lunar calendar, just discovered, demonstrates that their understandings of rhythms in nature were virtually always about complete "gender balances." So, where we can remember that for the first/longest period, WE WERE GETTING IT RIGHT, we can gain the confidence (and even concepts) to help us get "back" to that kind of planet.
