More teeth to stray dog birth control programme
With the new method of sterilisation, the State government plans to strengthen the stray dog birth control programme, Health Minister KKSSR Ramachandran has said. Speaking to reporters recently at the State-level workshop on prevention of rabies by elimination of stray dogs, the Minister said, 'Instead of animal birth control surgery, male dogs can be sterilised through injection of cadmium chloride. With the right dosage of chemical, the reproductive function of a male dog can be destroyed.' He further said Tamilnadu was the only State which spends Rs 19 crore on free treatment for dog bites. With 20 lakh stray dogs in and around the State, the government spends Rs 5.28 crore on stray dog birth control every year.
Leader Of The Mormon Church Dies
Gordon B Hinckley, who died on Sunday, was the 15th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its longest-serving president. He had been diagnosed with diabetes and in January 2006 underwent surgery for the removal of a cancerous growth in his large intestine. In April 2006, he told a church conference he was in the "sunset of my life" and "totally in the hands of the Lord". Since taking over as president and prophet of the church on March 12 1995, Hinckley had overseen one of the greatest periods of expansion in the church's history. .
