Gregory was scheduled to have surgery for prostate cancer Nov. 5 at Emory University Hospital. Writing in his weekly column for his archdiocesan newspaper, The Georgia Bulletin, the archbishop said the cancer is at an early stage and was diagnosed after a biopsy he had in September. "I have sought additional medical advice, and I have decided to have this surgery as the best response to my condition," he said. The column, released Oct. 30, was to be published in the Nov. 1 issue. "This means that I will be out of commission for the next several weeks. I must cancel all of my scheduled appointments at least through November and then begin again with a limited calendar in December," he said. He apologized for having to bow out of events he had already been scheduled to attend, but said any planned meetings "can take place without my presence.
Goulet hospitalized for lung ailment
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 Famed Las Vegas entertainer Robert Goulet is hospitalized in Los Angeles after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a report said. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday the 73-year-old singer was admitted to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment of the serious lung condition. Treatment for advanced stages of the lung ailment typically includes a lung transplant. Goulet, who reportedly has been on a ventilator since being admitted to the hospital last week, previously overcame a prostate cancer scare in the early 1990s. The noted singer, who once counted late crooner Frank Sinatra as one of his many admirers, burst onto the international scene in 1960 when he performed in the popular Broadway musical "Camelot." He has won a Grammy, a Tony and an Emmy.

Mary Jane Daniel Woska, 82, of Dallas passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.Services will be 2 p.m. today at Kerens Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lynette Solomon officiating. Interment will follow at Kerens Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Anthony Woska, Michael Pruett, Russ Crawford, Dale Crawford, Ross Pruett and Dan Woska.Mrs. Woska was born Jan. 4, 1926 in Kerens.She is survived by her son, Anthony Daniel Woska and wife Debbie of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Molly Jane Pruett and husband Ross of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Anthony Gerard Woska III of Edmond, Okla., Elizabeth Lane Woska of Stillwater, Okla., Amanda Jane Pruett and Michael Ross Pruett, both of Corinth; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Overmyer, Rylie Overmyer, Bradley Pruett and Jacob Pruett, all of Corinth.Memorials may be made to the SPCA and the American Cancer Society.Arrangements by Paschal Funeral Home, Kerens.
